Facts About Taiwanese Food

One of the most popular foodie destinations worldwide, Taiwan is known for its many night markets and vibrant, dynamic food culture.

Taiwanese food is well-loved by people all over the world. From beautiful scenic views to their street food dishes, Taiwan receives a high influx of tourists in the country during any season.

Although leisure travelling is halted at the moment, we Singaporeans are lucky to have multi-cultural food just a few steps away from our front doors. We know nothing beats the experience of strutting down the bustling market alleys, but a taste of the cuisine can transport you to that place in time, even if it is just for a small bit.

Here at Tai Feng Wei, we bring you fusion Taiwanese flavours that will for sure satisfy your cravings! Read on for some of our top-selling signature dishes that you must try.

Braised Pork Rice, or lǔ ròu fàn, is a popular rice dish containing tender stripped pork belly and hard-boiled egg with a rich savoury braised gravy. This classic comfort food is commonly found throughout Taiwan and Southern Fujian region and has the hearts of many. Fusion options include braised beef, chicken chop, pork chop and popcorn chicken.

One dish that you will find many slurping in seconds at street food stalls during the colder seasons in Taiwan is Beef Noodle Soup (niú ròu miàn tāng). This national soup dish is made of stewed or braised beef, beef broth, vegetables and Chinese noodles and topped with scallions. Dry noodle choices with braised pork, chicken chop, pork chop, mushroom, sesame oil and vinegar beef are also available.

Another best seller is our Egg Fried Rice (dàn chǎo fàn) that is great on its own or with a portion of pork chop for a more filling meal. Authentic Taiwanese fried rice packs a punch of flavour and is completely addictive. The secret to that is using American pearl rice and eggs for extra flavour — all skillfully combined in a wok. We took it up a notch and added fish roe for more texture, don’t knock it till you try it! Try it with other pairings such as shrimp, chicken chop, silverfish, pork chop in our hometown or sambal flavours.

If you have not tried the massively popular Chilli Oil Chive Dumplings (hóng yóu jiǔ cài jiǎo zi), trust us, it is the most succulent thing you will ever eat. Our dumplings is a combination of pork with chives. They are silky smooth and the chilli oil gives you an extra spicy kick that leaves you coming back for more.
